Prepare for 'darker threats' in 'Stranger Things' Season 2

As far as executive producer Shawn Levy is concerned, the strangest thing about "Stranger Things" has nothing to do with the mysteries that lurk in the Upside Down or the monsters that terrify townsfolk. It's that a series about all of those things has been embraced and celebrated. "I have to tell you, we had a sense that the show was unique and that it was cool. We had no idea whether people would watch, whether it would be embraced by the fancies, if you will," Levy told CNN at a recent event at Netflix's FYSee space, where it highlights its Emmy contenders. To date, "Stranger Things" has walked away with honors from the Producers Guild Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Now it has the Emmys in its sights. Levy called the possibility of Emmy honors "the top of the mountain top." "It's not what's on our mind when we're making the show, but it sure would thrill us for sure," he said. Levy thinks the secret to the show's success has been honoring "character first." "Stranger Things" might exist in a world where things go bump in the night, but that means nothing if the stories don't "service the warm-hearted center of this show above all else," he said. In the year since "Stranger Things" debuted, stars Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown have particularly been praised for their portrayals of their young characters. "If you didn't root for these kids the way all of us do, we wouldn't be where we're at -- either commercially or critically," Levy said. Season 2 will give viewers even more reasons to root for the friends, as they will face "more and darker threats" while recovering from Season 1's events. "Trauma is a major theme and frankly the return to normalcy," Levy said. "Is normal ever possible again in Hawkins [,Indiana]? In the Byers family? In the Wheeler family? ... That's a big question that looms over Season 2." Season 2 of "Stranger Things" will release on Netflix on October 31, 2017.

France Bans Captive Breeding Of Dolphins, Killer Whales

France on Saturday banned the breeding in captivity of dolphins and killer whales under tighter rules that campaigners hope will eventually herald the end of shows involving the animals. Environment Minister Segolene Royal had on Wednesday signed a version of the legislation introducing "tight controls on the reproduction of dolphins", her ministry said in a statement. But she has since decided the rules need to be "more radical", her ministry told AFP on Saturday, particularly after learning that "some animals were drugged" in aquariums. The new rules ban the captivity of all whales, dolphins and porpoises, except for orcas and bottlenose dolphins already held in authorized aquariums. Animal rights activists hailed the ban as a "historic French advance". "In plain terms, this means the end of breeding, exchange and import programs," five conservation groups including One Voice and Sea Shepherd said in a joint statement. "Without possible replenishment, this quite simply means the scheduled end of marine circuses on our territory." But the move sparked anger from Jon Kershaw, head of the Marineland Antibes dolphin show park in southern France, who told the Var-Matin newspaper it was a "bombshell" for establishments like his. The new rules notably also require "an increase of at least 150 percent of pools to allow the animals to live in less proximity from visitors and other animals", the ministry said, as well as banning chlorine in treating the water. Direct contact between the animals and the public is also now forbidden. Water parks and aquariums have six months to conform to the new rules, and a three-year deadline for expanding their pools. Parks such as Marineland Antibes -- the biggest attraction of its kind in Europe -- have faced growing criticism in recent years over their animals' living conditions.

'13 Reasons Why' Gets Second Season

The hit Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" has a new reason to celebrate. The series about a teen who leaves behind audio tapes that explain her suicide will be returning for a second season. Singer/actress Selena Gomez serves as an executive producer of the series along with her mother, Mandy Teefey. Gomez announced the return on Sunday using a teaser clip she shared on Instagram. "Their story isn't over," the caption sad. "Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming." The show is based on a popular 2007 young adult novel by Jay Asher in which teen Hannah Baker details the bullying and trauma that led to her suicide. And while the book doesn't have a sequel, the series co-showrunner Brian Yorkey told the Los Angeles Times prior to the second season pick-up that there was more left to tell. "Hannah's story isn't over — she has parents who still don't have the complete story," he said. "There's a rapist who hasn't been brought to justice and there's a living survivor of that rapist who is just beginning her journey of recovery." While the show has been tremendously popular with fans, there has also been controversy. New Zealand's Office of Film and Literature Classification reportedly advised that young people watch with an adult out of concern over that country's high teen suicide rate. Netflix gave it a TV-MA rating which is for mature audiences and added content warnings given the graphic depictions of rape and suicide. The company also set up a site with crisis information and suicide prevention resources.

The Jakarta Police will ramp up security at several government offices and shopping malls across the city during the verdict hearing of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama in his blasphemy trial on Tuesday. The extra measures will be carried out based on intelligence from the police on the potential for conflict during the hearing session, South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Iwan Kurniawan said on Monday. “There will be people who are satisfied and not satisfied [with the verdict]. We will prepare maximum security measures for tomorrow,” Iwan said. The police plan to deploy extra officers at several shopping malls, including Blok M Plaza, Cilandak Town Square and Pondok Indah Mall in South Jakarta. That hot "Harry Potter" play is flying across the pond. "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is coming to North America via Broadway. According to the "Cursed Child" site, the play is set to open in April next year at New York's Lyric Theatre. Based on an original story by "Potter" author J.K. Weekly Reflection

Hello! Today I'm going to give comment on "More Albino Orangutan Believed to be Living in Kalimantan Forests."

I'm so glad when I heard this news. They said that the world has discovered a new animal which turns out to be albino orangutan and the happiest fact is they found this animal in Indonesia! Can you imagine how happy I am? Indonesia is very rich on its nature. It has so many kind of plant and animal.

Indonesia To Speed Up Negotiation With Freeport

The government intends to speed up negotiations with gold and copper miner PT Freeport Indonesia, aiming to reach a win-win solution regarding the company’s future operations within the next one or two months. The subsidiary of the United States-based mining giant Freeport-McMoRan has recently obtained a temporary special mining permit (IUPK) by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry that allows the company to export 1.11 million wet metric tons (wmt) of copper concentrate for a year. On the other hand, both sides have a period of six months, until Oct. 10, to settle various issues, including on investment stability, divestment and smelter construction. “However, [Energy and Mineral Resources] Minister Ignasius Jonan hopes it can be settled within one or two months,” the ministry’s secretary-general, Teguh Pamudji, told reporters on Thursday.  Meanwhile, Freeport-McMoRan president and CEO Richard C. Adkerson said the key issue for his side was the government’s assurance that the company would be able to operate in Indonesia after 2021. Through the assurance, he said, the miner could have the confidence to continue developing an underground mine in Papua with an investment value of around US$15 billion.  “So, we’re going to deal with those issues in a way that is acceptable to the government and the people of Indonesia, as well as to Freeport’s shareholders,” Adkerson said.

Energy Ministry To Develop 16 Wind Power Plants

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is planning to develop wind power plants in 16 locations across the country. The ministry's director general for new and renewable energy, Rida Mulyana, said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the country had great wind energy potential that would be harnessed by the power plants. The locations of the projects, which are to be developed in cooperation with Denmark, include Surakarta in Central Java and the South Sulawesi towns of Jeneponto and Sidrap, Antara news agency reported on Tuesday. “We expect that the Surakarta project will materialize in 2018,” said Rida, adding that the signing of the agreement with Denmark had been witnessed by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan and Danish Development Cooperation Minister Ulla Tørnæs on Tuesday. Indonesia has about 800 inhabited islands that require energy, said Jonan, adding that wind power plants could be the best choice for such regions as supplying energy to the islands via cable networks would be less efficient. Jonan stressed that remote areas should not rely on energy from other regions through cable, but should develop their own power plants powered by sources of energy such as wind.

Ramayana Records Flat Performance In Q1

Fashion retailer PT Ramayana Lestari Sentosa saw its sales and net profits flatten out in the first quarter of 2017. Ramayana's sales contracted 0.2 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 1.48 trillion (US$111.14 million) compared to Rp 1.49 trillion in the first quarter of 2016. Its net profits also fell by 0.7 percent yoy to Rp 1.08 billion compared to the Rp 1.09 billion recorded in the same period last year. "The numbers are flat but our performance is better than other retailers. We also recorded positive same store sales growth of 1 percent yoy," Ramayana finance and accounting director Suryanto said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday. Previously, Lippo Group's PT Matahari Department Store announced negative yoy growth of 0.55 percent in sales and a 40.4 percent drop in net profits. Suryanto added that the flat performance was because of recent security issues in Jakarta that had caused people to hold off on their purchases. Greater Jakarta made up of 33 percent Ramayana's total sales. "Meanwhile in other regions, a recovery in commodity prices has not yet boosted public purchases," he said.

More Albino Orangutans Believed To Be Living in Kalimantan Forests

A conservation group in Central Kalimantan believes there are a number of albino orangutans living in the wild in Borneo after the discovery of the first of its kind last week. Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) CEO Jamartin Sihite said Monday it was confirmed that the five-year-old white-furred female orangutan was an animal carrying albinism after a test conducted at the facility’s medical team found that “its eyes are very sensitive to light”, which is one of the symptoms of the congenital disorder, and that it was not "a new orangutan species." “There must be orangutans living in the forests from whom the albino orangutan inherited the disorder, for it is genetic,” Jamartin said. The BOSF took the orangutan on Friday from a local peasant in Tenggirang village, Kapuas regency, Central Kalimantan, who found the animal walking in a forest near the area. Workers at the BOSF orangutan rehabilitation center in Nyaru Menteng, Central Kalimantan, where the animal is currently being treated, estimate that they need at least one month to take care of the animal before releasing it into the wild. Apparently, the animal was in a physically “weak condition” when it was found. Arga Sawung Kusuma, a BOSF veterinarian taking care of the albino orangutan, said the animal was suffering from helminthiasis (a worm infection) and severe dehydration.

Weekly reflection

Hello! Today I'm going to give comment on "Elephant Kills Tour Owner in Klungklung."

I don't belive that there is an evil animal on this earth. There are carnivore animal which eat meat but they never have the intention to harm the others. It is just their instinct. Animals want to protect themself from danger. Maybe the owner has been doing something wrong. Then the action considered by those elephant as an action which threatening them so the elephants attacked their owner whereas the owner didn't have the  intention to harm them. Even though it is not the owner who bothers them, there must be something else that bother them.

However I hope the police will find the truth behind this heartbreaking incident. Stay strong for the family who lost a husband and father.

Telkomsel Website Hacked

Customers of Telkomsel attempting to log on to its official website on Friday, were met with a black homepage emblazoned with a stern message, the result of a hack on the telecommunications company. The message, accompanied by a four-letter profanity, called on Telkomsel to reduce its internet fees. It has been replaced with an apology from the company and a brief explanation that the “website is under maintenance.” However, netizens are still able to view part of the hacker’s original message by entering telkomsel.com in a search engine. In his/her full message, the hacker expressed his/her disappointment over the company’s internet fees, and urged it to stop selling quotas for so many networks, namely 2G, 3G and 4G. The hacker also complained about the operator’s music quota and film streaming services, before slamming streaming service operators such as HOOQ and VIU. On behalf the company, Telkomsel Corporate Communication vice president Adita Irawati apologized for the incident, saying the company is investigating the hack and repairing its website. “Should Telkomsel consumers need product information and Telkomsel services, they can use other Telkomsel networks, such as the MyTelkomsel application, our call center or GraPARI,” she said.

Arendra further said the police were still investigating the case. “We have questioned several witnesses and will continue the investigation,” he said. Citing a witness, the police chief said the elephant was leashed inside the cage when the incident occurred.

Thai Woman Has No Anger Toward Facebook After Girl's Killing

The wife of a Thai man who hanged their 11-month-old daughter on Facebook Live said Wednesday her husband is the only person to blame, and she bears no anger toward the social media site or the users who shared the horrific video. The video showed 20-year-old Wuttisan Wongtalay killing his child. He then kills himself. It was broadcast Monday evening and made inaccessible by Facebook late Tuesday afternoon. "I am not angry at Facebook or blaming them on this," Chiranut Trairat, 21, told The Associated Press. "I understand that people shared the video because they were outraged and saddened by what happened." She said her husband had been abusive in the past and spent two years in prison before they started dating. Facebook has been seeking ways to block videos as quickly as possible after a series of gruesome images, including murder and sexual assault, were broadcast or posted. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said last week that his company has "a lot of work" to do on the problem. The murder in Phuket came less than two weeks after a man in Cleveland, Ohio, posted on Facebook footage of himself shooting a man to death. In Thailand, the potential for problems with Facebook Live became an issue last May when local media used the platform to broadcast live video of a university lecturer who was locked in a six-hour standoff with police who were seeking him in the shooting deaths of two colleagues. After negotiations for his surrender failed, he fatally shot himself, a moment that was shown live.

Russian Prosecutors Seek 3½ Years for 'Pokemon Go' Blogger

Russian prosecutors requested a 3½ year prison sentence Friday for a blogger charged with inciting religious hatred for playing "Pokemon Go" in a church. Prosecutors made the request as the trial of Ruslan Sokolovsky, 22, wrapped up in the city of Yekaterinburg. A judge said a verdict in the case would be issued May 11. Sokolovsky posted a video on his blog showing him playing the smartphone game in a church built on the supposed spot where the last Russian tsar and his family were killed. He has been in detention since October. He is charged with inciting religious hatred. It is the same offense that sent two women from the Pussy Riot punk collective to prison for two years in 2012. "Honestly, I'm really in shock that the state prosecutors asked for 3 ½ years," particularly because it wasn't a violent offense, Sokolovsky was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying. He said he is studying and working and could lose everything, if he is sent to prison. The state RIA Novosti news agency quoted his lawyer, Alexei Bushmakov, saying he hoped for acquittal or a suspended sentence.

ASEAN Shelves Declaration On Rights Of Migrant Workers

ASEAN member states have failed to reach a consensus on a highly anticipated migrant workers' protection instrument, prompting the region's senior officials to shelve the declaration for the next summit in November. For months Indonesia and the Philippines had played up the adoption of the ASEAN Declaration on the Promotion and Protection of Migrant Workers' Rights, an instrument that would provide robust protection for all migrant workers in the region. Now, Jakarta found itself in the minority of those who insist on the declaration's legally-binding nature, as even Manila was resigned to the idea of a non-enforceable instrument, said Jose AM Tavares, the Foreign Ministry's director general for ASEAN affairs, who said Indonesia would need to rethink its strategy on pursuing an enforceable instrument. "The issue will [be discussed] beyond the upcoming ASEAN summit, even though there will still be a statement pushing for its adoption by year's end," Jose said after concluding a preparatory ASEAN senior officials meeting in Manila on Thursday, emphasizing that ASEAN labor ministers would convene next month for a follow-up meeting. "We hope to conclude the instrument in the coming months, so that it can be tapped as an outcome document at the November leaders' summit," Jose added. ASEAN is currently split between sending states of migrant workers, like Indonesia and the Philippines, and receiving countries, like Malaysia and Brunei, on issues related to the protection of migrant workers, particularly the undocumented ones.

Weekly Reflection

Hello! Today I'm going to pay my promise last week. "Trasnlation More Hobby Than Work for Novelist Murakami" apparently is the article I will give my comment on. So, let's start.

As far as I can remember I have never read novel from a Japanese novelist before but I believe that he is a great novelist. I can tell from the quote statement he gave at the event. Indeed it is the best for someone to have a job which is not far from their hobbies. However, I am telling you not to have one of your hobbies as your job because if someday you are tired of everything you have done at your job, you will hate your job which means you will end up hating your hobby too. What do you think about hating your job and your hobby in the same time? You are not ready for that, aren't you?

End of story it is okay to have your job as one of your hobbies but never make your hobbies as your job.

Translation More Hobby Than Work For Novelist Murakami

Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami, an accomplished translator as well as author of works that have been translated for readers around the world to enjoy, said Thursday translation is "almost in the realm of a hobby" for him.
"I just find myself doing more and more (translations)," Murakami said at an event celebrating the publication of his new nonfiction work in which he reflects on his experience doing translations.
It is rare for Murakami, 68, to speak in public within Japan. But he seemed relaxed, clad in a T-shirt and jacket, as he gave a speech peppered with jokes to a crowd of around 460 people. Reflecting on his experience of both writing novels and translating foreign literature, Murakami said he feels like his "mental circulation has improved greatly by keeping a good balance (between the two)." He said translating the works of American writer Raymond Chandler has made him realize that he is "still developing" as a novelist. "For people who create things, getting oddly settled into a fixed system is what's frightening," Murakami said. "Translation is like a window opened onto the outside." Murakami got stuck into translation in 1981 and has continued the work while penning his bestselling novels. Around 70 of his translations have been published. His latest work touches on themes from American author F. Scott Fitzgerald, whose works are among Murakami's translations.

Aneka Gas Eyeing Double Digit Revenue Growth in 2017

Publicly listed gas distributor PT Aneka Gas Industri is aiming for double-digit growth in its 2017 revenue, at around 20 to 30 percent, assuming the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth can be maintained at 5 to 6 percent this year. Aneka Gas saw Rp 1.6 trillion (US$120.17 million) in total sales last year, a 15.75 year-on-year increase. Gas sales, which rose 13.87 percent to Rp 1.4 trillion, were the main driver of the growth. To reach the 2017 target, the company will expand its network by constructing 11 more gas filling stations in addition to its existing 80 filling stations. The strategy will broaden its nationwide coverage to 34 provinces, from the current coverage of 24 provinces. “We have constructed two filling stations in Borneo, and will construct the remainder in Ternate, Ambon, Papua, Sumatra, and Java,” Arief Harsono, president commissioner of Aneka Gas Industri, said on Thursday. The construction of one filling station requires a Rp 5 billion to Rp 12 billion investment, depending on the capacity of the gas filling stations and the location of the site, among other factos.

Teenager Became Withdrawn Before Joining Tuban Attack

Satria Aditama, one of the six people shot dead after an attack on a police station in Tuban, East Java, was known as a friendly person in his neigborhood. Just like other people of his age, the 19-year-old resident of Ngaliyan subdistrict in Semarang, Central Java, was active in the neighborhood and went regularly to a nearby mosque. “But he changed six months ago. He did not hang out with his friends or go to the mosque,” Candra Satya Nugroho, the head of neighboring unit where he lived. Satria was the youngest of five children of Wagito and Cici Murdiati. When he was not in the neighborhood, he usually visited his older siblings. The news that he was among the six people who apparently attacked a police station in Tuban shocked the residents in Ngaliyan. “We are shocked. We are now helping his mother Cici Murdiati to cope with this tragedy. We think Satria is a victim of a terrorist group,” said Candra. National Police’s counterterrorism squad Densus 88 shot six men on Saturday after they apparently attacked the police station in Tuban. The motive behind the attack was suspected to be retaliation against the police who had earlier arrested a leader of terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) in Lamongan, East Java.

Safety Worries Dampen Chinese Demand For North Korea Tours

Some Chinese tourism companies are eliminating or offering fewer trips to neighboring North Korea as regional tensions and safety worries dampen demand. Representatives of tour companies Ctrip, Caissa and China Youth Travel Service said Wednesday they are no longer organizing trips to North Korea. State-run media in China and members of the public have been critical of hostile statements from North Korean leaders as the nation pursues a nuclear arsenal. Caissa sales manager Zhao Cuili says most tourists are unwilling to go because of safety concerns. The two biggest companies, China International Travel Service and China Travel Service, say they still offer multi-day trips to North Korea. China International Travel sales manager Zhao Haiwei says passengers must take North Korean airlines after the Civil Aviation Administration of China suspended flights.

Government Urges Public To Turn Off Lightbulbs, AC To Conserve Energy

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry wants more people to be involved in its energy saving program so that it can save electricity and cut carbon emissions further in the long run. “As of December 2016, it was estimated that we could save electricity amounting to 1.8 terawatt hours and reduce the carbon emissions by about 1 million tons of CO2,” Satry Nugraha, a special staff member for environment and spatial planning for the energy and mineral resources minister, said in Jakarta on Tuesday. The ministry launched the energy saving program called “Potong 10%” (10 percent cut) in April last year in a bid to encourage people to reduce their use of energy in their daily lives, including by using energy-efficient lighting technologies such as light emitting diode (LED) lightbulbs, setting the air conditioner temperatures at 24 degrees Celsius, or turning of electronic devices when not in use. Since August 2016, it has also mandated all air conditioner producers to label their products with energy saving labels from the ministry to ensure the use of energy-efficient technologies. “We believe that this year we can surpass these achievements if more people are involved, including by using more energy-efficient technologies in their daily lives,” Satry added. The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has stated that a 10 percent energy saving in three years is equal to the development of one coal-fired power plant. Thus, more people should contribute to the program.

Germany Still Hunting Perpetrators of Dortmund Bus Attack

German investigators said Thursday they have found no evidence so far that an Iraqi detained after the Borussia Dortmund bus attack was involved in the bombing, but he is suspected of membership in the Islamic State group. The search for the bomber or bombers continued.Three explosions on Tuesday evening near the soccer team's bus wounded a Dortmund player and a police officer as they headed to a Champions League match against Monaco. Federal prosecutors said the 26-year-old Iraqi — identified only as Abdul Beset A. in line with German privacy laws — allegedly joined IS in Iraq by late 2014 and led a unit of about 10 fighters involved in preparing kidnappings, extortions and killings. He traveled to Turkey in March 2015 and remained in contact with members of IS after arriving in Germany in early 2016, prosecutors said. However, "so far the investigation has turned up no evidence that the suspect participated in the attack," they said in a statement. A judge later Thursday ordered that A. be kept in investigative detention over his alleged IS membership. Authorities also searched the home of a second suspected Islamic extremist but prosecutors said Thursday there were no indications he was involved in the bus attack. Police say the metal-packed devices used in the attack were sophisticated and would have required detailed knowledge of explosives and detonators. Investigators are still puzzling over three copies of a note claiming responsibility for the attack that were found at the scene. The note demanded that Germany withdraw reconnaissance jets assisting the fight against IS and close the U.S. Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Experts say the letter's mix of correct, complicated German and obvious mistakes raises the possibility it is a red herring intended to place blame on Islamic extremists. The head of the domestic intelligence agency's regional branch, Burkhard Freier, said that Arabic phrases were missing from the note and its demands weren't typical of IS, noting that "IS doesn't negotiate." He said that Islamic, left-wing and right-wing extremists are being considered by investigators, the news agency dpa reported.

University Student Charged With Running Prostitutes In Jakarta

A university student who allegedly made tens of millions of rupiah per month from online prostitution and trafficking children has been arrested, police said. The 26-year-old student, identified only by the initials KA, 26, allegedly ran the business for a year, according to Tanjung Priok Port Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Roberthus Yohanes De Deo Tresna Eka Trimana on Tuesday. Police claimed the student had confessed to have "sold" an underage person into prostitution. “According to information from KA, [the business] gave him profits of tens of millions every month,” said Roberthus. He claimed that KA allegedly offered the sex services via his website. Roberthus said that the police arrested KA on March 31 at a hotel in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta. The police confiscated KA’s cell phone and Rp 1.1 million (US$83), among other things, during the arrest. The police said KA got Rp 300,000 per transaction, while the fee for each prostitution service was between of Rp 800,000 and Rp 1 million. KA was charged under the 2014 Child Protection Law, which imposes a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison upon conviction, and under the 2008 Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, which carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison or a fine of Rp 750 million upon conviction.

Energy Ministry Teams Up With BI For Single Energy Subsidy Card

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bank Indonesia (BI) to expedite the integration of energy subsidies that will be channeled through the Prosperous Family Card (KKS). The KKS, which is expected to promote non-cash social assistance with proper distribution, will be linked to an integrated system connecting various state-owned lenders under the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara). Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said it was difficult to monitor the distribution of subsidized 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters on the field as such canisters were often purchased by ineligible customers. “Hence, the subsidy for the 3-kg LPG canisters will no longer be given to [state-owned energy firm] Pertamina. Instead, it will be distributed directly to those really needing it through the KKS,” Jonan said in Jakarta on Thursday. Jonan expects the implementation of the new subsidy scheme for the 3-kg LPG canisters and electricity to begin in January 2018, or in March at the latest. “However, we might need to wait for the full implementation of the single identification number system before we can impose a similar scheme for kerosene and biosolar,” Jonan said. Data from the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Alleviation (TNP2K) show that there are only 25.7 million households eligible to purchase Pertamina’s subsidized 3-kg LPG canisters. However, the canisters have been distributed to almost 60 million households.

The Society of Environmental Journalists (SIEJ) North Sumatra staged on Thursday a fund-raising event for the restoration of forests on Mount Lubukraya and across the Sibual-Buali Nature Reserve in South Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra. The group said both conservation zones, which have become water catchment areas and homes for protected animals such as Sumatran orangutans and hornbills, should be well-conserved and protected from any practices that may lead to environmental destruction. “Our sources have revealed that massive forest conversions have taken place in these areas. This is what has triggered flash floods there,” SIEJ North Sumatra member Mei Leandha said at Thursday’s event. The activist was referring to flooding caused by the overflow of the Batang Ayumi River on March 26, which killed seven people, swept away livestock and damaged plantations, houses, schools and numerous public facilities. Opening up access to conservation areas without implementing replanting and restoration activities would only bring further disasters, she added. “If we care about the Earth and all it has to offer, let’s join this restoration movement,” said Mei. Money raised at the event will be used to restore forests affected by flash foods, and fund the planting of 1,000 trees along the Batam Ayumi River. The replanting activity will be held on April 22 to coincide with Earth Day.

UN Strongly Condemns North Korea's Latest Missile Launch

The Security Council on Thursday strongly condemned North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch and demanded a halt to all missile tests, stressing again that they violate UN sanctions and "are significantly increasing tension in the region and beyond." A press statement agreed to by all 15 members expresses "utmost concern" at North Korea's "highly destabilizing behavior and flagrant and provocative defiance of the Security Council" by conducting the latest launch less than three weeks after the previous test. Council members said they "deplore" all North Korean ballistic missile activity, stressing that it contributes to the country's development of nuclear weapons delivery systems and diverts resources from the needs of its people. Tensions have escalated over North Korean moves to accelerate its weapons development. The North conducted two nuclear tests and 24 ballistic missile tests last year, defying six Security Council sanctions resolutions banning any testing. The constant testing has deepened concern especially in nearby Japan and neighboring South Korea — and also in Washington over fears that Pyongyang could soon develop a nuclear-armed missile capable of reaching the US mainland. A US official said Wednesday's missile test ended in failure when the rocket spun out of control and plunged into the ocean in a fiery crash. The council the failed test followed a missile launch on March 21 and two additional rounds of launches and an engine test in February and March. The council statement was issued hours before US President Donald Trump meets China's President Xi Jinping at his Florida resort, where North Korea will be at the top of the agenda. US Ambassador Nikki Haley said Monday that "the United States has seen China for 25 plus years say that they're concerned about North Korea, but we haven't seen them act like they're concerned about North Korea." "This administration wants to see them act, and I think they're going to pressure them to do that," she said.

Freeport Won’t Reach For Arbitration Option

The government has said PT Freeport Indonesia will not bring it to the international arbitration tribunal as both parties are in the process of negotiation to seek solutions to their differences. "No, they will not do it," Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's mineral and coal director general Bambang Gatot Ariyono told The Jakarta Post in Jakarta on Thursday. Bambang’s statement was confirmed by Freeport McMoRan Inc. chief executive officer Richard Adkerson, who said, as reported by Bloomberg, that “the arbitration wouldn’t happen if talks are proceeding well”. Bambang said the government had issued a special mining license (IUPK) to Freeport, which automatically allowed the company to export concentrates. However, he added, Freeport had eight months to adapt itself to the IUPK requirements, if not, it would have to revert back to a contract of work (CoW). "It is not a 'temporary contract', we’ve already issued the IUPK for Freeport, but it has eight months to adapt, if it fails it must to go back to a CoW and cannot export concentrates," he said. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said if Freeport chose to revert to a CoW, it would still be allowed to sell to the domestic market. "It will be allowed to revert to the CoW, but with consequences of not exporting anymore," he said.

Indonesia Launches First Catholic State Institute

Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin inaugurated on Thursday the Pontianak State Catholic Institute (STAKatN) in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan, saying the institute would hopefully support the spirit of unity in the diverse nation of Indonesia. He acknowledged that it had taken quite a long time to award STAKatN Pontianak the status of a state institute because of bureaucratic procedures at the local level. “I was once feeling guilty when I saw that all religions in our country, except Catholics, had state institutes. It made me feel quite concerned,” said Lukman. The minister said he hoped the inauguration of STAKatN Pontianak would be followed with the development of similar institutions in other areas across Indonesia. This was because religious education was important to help Indonesia maintain unity among its diverse population. “Religion is not something we should debate in the public sphere. It is its values that we must implement,” said Lukman. Earlier, STAKatN Pontianak was a private institute called the Santo Agustinus Pastoral Institute (STP), which began to operate in 2006. Former STP Santo Agustinus head Andreas Muhrotien said the presence of the institute was initially a solution to fulfill a shortage of teachers for Catholic religious education. “We have taken a long journey in our process to make it a state institute. Thank God, it was realized today and this is a historic moment because this is the first Catholic state institute in Indonesia,” said Andreas. In the last 10 years, STAKatN Pontianak has produced 1,250 bachelors and 31 masters while 703 people have participated in a program to make their school degrees equal to a bachelor degree.

Indonesia, Russia Vow Stronger Cooperation Against Terrorism

Russia's bestowing of an international police cooperation award to National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, a former top antiterrorism official, was amplified in meaning given that the event came soon in the aftermath of a fatal terrorist attack in St. Petersburg earlier this week. The ceremony in Jakarta on Thursday saw Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Y. Galuzin place a pin on the police chief's uniform in token of the commemorative medal of "100 years of international police cooperation" from the Russian Interior Affairs Ministry, which oversees Russia’s national police force. Tito, who has an established background in counterterrorism as he previously led the National Police's counterterrorism unit, was recognized for his contribution for progressing the development of the National Police’s partnership with their Russian counterparts. "The relations between our police services are really close. The representatives of the National Police of Indonesia participate actively in interagency consultations between Russia and Indonesia in the format of a special working group to counter international terrorism and organized crime," Galuzin said. The ambassador further praised Tito's contribution to the deepening of global police cooperation, noting the gathering of 167 countries at the Interpol General Assembly in Bali in November as a significant achievement. Tito in turn conveyed his "highest appreciation" to Russia and "deepest and heartfelt" condolences on Monday’s suicide bombing on the St. Petersburg metro that reportedly killed 14 people. "This is again, our common problem that we should look after and deal with hand-in-hand," Tito added.

Bojonegoro May Be Listed As National Geoheritage Site

The Bandung Geology Agency in West Java expects that Bojonegoro regency, East Java, along with Yogyakarta, will get a national geoheritage certificate from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in 2017. Andiani, the head of the Bojonegoro geopark verification team from the agency, said Bojonegoro’s geoheritage documents were almost complete. “It’s about 80 percent. I still have to visit locations, which have geoheritage potential in Bojonegoro,” she said as quoted by Antara on Wednesday. Andiani said that if Bojonegoro and Yogyakarta were determined as geological cultural preserves, they would become Indonesia’s first two cities granted such status after the issuance of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Regulation No.32/ 2016 on Geological Cultural Preservation. “This year, we are also aiming to rank the national geoheritage potential,” she said. A proposal to grant geoheritage status to Bojonegoro was conveyed to the Bandung Geology Agency on March 3. However, the proposal, which has been signed by Bojonegoro regent Suyoto, must be accompanied by an approval letter from East Java Governor Soekarwo. “The governor’s approval letter can be directly conveyed to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry,” said Andiani. Hanang Samudra, the head of the geoheritage verification team from the Bandung Geology Agency, said Bojonegoro’s geological potential met 100 percent of qualifications to be included in the national geoheritage rank. These include fossils, rock formations and other natural richness. “To get international geoheritage status from UNESCO, it should be first granted national geoheritage status,” said Hanang.

Former Terrorism Convict Slams Govt's Deradicalization Program

Former terrorist convict Agus Marshal has lambasted the program initiated by the government to curb radicalism among terrorism convicts, saying that the program is too formal and not carried out optimally. Agus, who was sentenced to three years in prison for terrorism offenses in 2012, said that he was indicted together with Yayat Cahdiyat, a convicted terrorist who died on Monday after taking part in a bomb attack in Cicendo district, Bandung, in West Java. They were declared guilty for a gas station robbery in Kali Asin, Cikampek, to fund military training in Aceh. Agus who completed his sentence in 2016 said the communication pattern developed by the government with the former convicts was too formal. He suggested that the relationship take on a parent-and-child dynamic. "What I feel is the formal form [of the program]. We all know the character of Indonesian bureaucracy, it is not like a father and son relationship. For the child's sake [the relationship] should not be based on demands," he said. Agus welcomed Purwakarta regent Dedi Mulyadi’s offer to him to work as a local cleaner and teacher at Purwakarta's Ideology School to help him get back on his feet.  He said it was very important for former convicts to be financially independent, however they also need guidance in their social and financial affairs. "The point is [the government] must really accept each former terrorism convict so that they feel like they have a country and a government," he added.

Indonesia Still The Largest Contributor of Tourists To Singapore

About 2.89 million Indonesians visited Singapore throughout 2016, the biggest contribution of tourists to the city state, about 17.7% of the country’s 16.4 million total foreign tourist arrivals, according to a statement released by Singapore Tourism Board (STB). The number of tourists from Indonesia grew by 6%, which was categorized as a sharp jump from the 10% decline in 2015, the statement says. STB area director to Indonesia Raymond Lim said on Tuesday in a media gathering in Jakarta that his office would continue trying to attract more Indonesians to visit Singapore. “We really hope that we can maintain what we had last year,” he said, adding that about 13% of Indonesians who visited Singapore went there for business. However, to boost the numbers of tourists from the eastern part of Indonesia, the board will hold roadshows in Palembang in South Sumatra and in Medan in North Sumatra in March and April, he said, adding that it would continue the roadshows in Bali in August and in Sulawesi in September. Lim said the board aimed for 16.4 to 16.7 million foreign tourists to visit Singapore in 2017 and expected revenues of between US$25 and $25.8 billion.

She also added that most of the rescued were made based on reports from residents. Besides cats and dogs, the agency also rescued ill-treated animals, such as monkeys and horses. "After being rescued they are examined to decide whether if they need medical treatment or not," she continued.

Pokémon Go Makes $1 Billion Revenue Worldwide

Since its release on July 6, 2016, the popular augmented reality game Pokémon Go has made over US$1 billion in revenue worldwide on the App Store and Google Play, according to app analytics platform Sensor Tower on Tuesday. Developed by Niantic Labs, the game earned the amount without including China, the world’s largest smartphone market. It is estimated that the figures will increase once the game expands to the country. Pokémon Go also broke records as the first mobile app to gain $500 million in revenue in just three months after its debut. In comparison, other popular games like Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans needed six months to a year to achieve such a figure. Despite its massive achievement, Sensor Tower considers the game to be less profitable compared to several months after its release, when it gained approximately $18 million per day. Its current daily revenue is estimated to be between $1.5 million and $2.5 million. Niantic Labs has reportedly started efforts to bring back Pokémon Go’s glory days by providing new features, such as adding new characters, holding special events and releasing the game on Apple Watch.

The Explaination of Nicole Kidman's Awkward Clapping

Nicole Kidman has a great explanation for her self-described "awkward" clapping at last month's Academy Awards. The actress was captured on camera clumsily attempting to clap during the ceremony and folks on social media noticed. According Kidman, the 119-carat diamond ring she was wearing made applause a challenge.

"It was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own," she said on "Kyle and Jackie O Show." "It was absolutely gorgeous, and I was terrified of damaging it. It's like, is there not more important things to be focused on than the seal clap?"
Kidman, who was nominated for best supporting actress for her performance in the drama "Lion," had a dilemma: to clap or not to clap?
"It was really awkward!" she continued. "I was like, 'Gosh, I want to clap.' I don't want to not be clapping, which would be worse, right? 'Why isn't Nicole clapping?'"
You made the right call, Nicole. We applaud you

What Do Google Do To Make Google Translation Perfect?

Google translate continued to make improvement in translating so it become easier to use. Usually it translates word by word but now they try to make it as natural as possible. As published on Slash Gear, improvements in neural machine allows users to translate a sentence so that the translation would be more readable or understanable. In the beginning, neural machine originally created to translate from and to English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Turkish and Korean. Not only that, Google has just announced that they also add to Hindi, Russian, and Vietnam. But this new languages will only be available in translate app for Android and iOS. Google also plans to add some other languages but it's still secret. Google translate has some limitation too like another automatic translation tools. It doesn't provide an accurate translation.

Weekly Reflection (this blog ain't help me on my grammar)

Oh my God! This is my fourth weekly reflection which is mean it has been a month since I wrote my first article on this blog. I can't believe that I've written this blog for a month. I feel so grateful that I could through all of this. At first it was hard for me to do this assignment. Especially to find an idea, like what I said before on my third weekly reflection. But after a month I can tell that this blog was worth my time.
This blog really helps me on my vocabulary. I'm not going to say that this blog helps me on my grammar because to be honest, I don't even know if my grammar on this blog it's all correct or the opposite. Nobody correct my grammar all of this time. I don't know why. Maybe because they also don't know whether it's correct or not. Or maybe because nobody read my article. I feel a little bit sad when I know the fact that no one read my article. However I made this for an assignment. I just need my lecturer to read all of my post and take a mark.
Well, I hope this blog can help me on my grammar someday. Maybe the day is not coming now. But I believe someday it will.

It was not easy to interviewed North Korean people because they're not familiar with journalist, especially with foreign journalist. CNN chose Pyongyang Park to interviewed local people due to their daily activity mostly done there. According to Yu Gwang Chol, one of the North Korean people, every Norh Korea people only knows that the President of the United Stated had changed. Just that. Outside of that is not really important for them. For Gwang Chol, the United States always unfair for North Korean people. "We don't care who is in charge to lead the United States, the point is when is exactly they are going to stop the policy of hostility with us," said Gwang Chol. Another local people, Park Chol Song also add "we don't interested in the US because we prefer to talk something which happen in our country. we just want a better correlation between North Korea and the US."
